Concerts are LOVE, that is why I adore attending them. From bar gigs, battle of the bands, artist concerts, Fete de la musique, Myxmo, RH muziklaban, to Pulp Summer slam.
And when I learned that the Eraserheads will have a part 2 of their reunion concert, I was truly raring to go and watch.
I purchased a ticket almost a week before the event. I was eager to go even if I’m alone. Good thing my friend Khax went with me.
On the morning of March 7, the exhilaration developed even further. So we went to the venue early. About 2 hours before the start, many supporters are already present at the concert venue.
The thrill and fervor of the crowd is awe-inspiring. Whenever the MTV ad for the concert would come into view, people would shout and root for Eraserheads. It was apparent that they in actuality can’t wait for the show to begin.
When the show started, everyone stood up, looked for their own nice spot. Khax and I stood up close to a big screen and a big speaker which I think damaged our eardrums. Hehe. But we chose to suffer from the loud sound than to go someplace where we cannot have a good shot of the screen.
For the first few songs, I tried to count the songs they played but as the concert goes on, I lost track of the numbers because I was dumbfounded by their music.
The concert started with breathtaking pyrotechnics. I took a video of it but also deleted it because I needed more space to record some songs. ‘Magasin’ was the first song followed by their other hits.
At some point in the middle part of the show, Ely requested for the crowd to scream for Francis’ name, each one of us shouted loud then they played ‘Super Proxy’ with such passion, followed by a part of “kaleidoscope world’, an accolade to the late Master Rapper who was supposed to be a surprise guest in the said concert.
‘Huling El Bimbo’ was the last song along with astounding fireworks display. It was past 12:30 I think (not sure) when they ended Huling El Bimbo, expressed thanks and said good bye and went off the stage, but not a soul was moving, as if waiting for them to play more songs. Khax and I were taking photos at the Big Coca-cola at the back of the venue when few minutes after, (I think that was Raymond) asked the crowd if we still want more, then he called Ely, Buddy and Marcus and they talked at the stage (I don’t know if it’s scripted or what. Hehe). Khax and I hurried back to our previous spot along with everyone moving closer to the stage and screens. Then they played more songs which according to Ely is not included in their set. That last part made the crowd more enthusiastic and full of life.
The multitude sang with every song they sang, applauded and screamed at every song they played. I’m a huge fan of the band, maybe that’s why I had this exceptional feeling during the concert. I had mixed emotions. I was ecstatic that I almost cried. Delighted because I was at that concert and poignant because maybe, that is really their ‘final set’. It was actually spectacular to see them on stage, together as one band.
Now, two days after the concert, I’m still having ‘last song heard syndrome’ and let’s just say I still haven’t ‘moved on’ from the Eraserheads fervor. I’m just really delighted that out of the millions of the Eraserheads’ fans, I was one of the 100,000 who witnessed.
